Green Bay are18-11 ATS at home, and a perfect 5-0 ATS as a home dog/pick ‘em since 1989. Meanwhile, since 1984, the Chargers are 0-5 ATS outside of Southern California as a favorite, pick ‘em, or even a 1-point dog. This creates a strong trend in Green Bay’s favor. Finally in a preseason week 1 home underdogs of 3+ points are 9-3 ATS in the last dozen occurrences. Add to the fact that this game is nationally televised, and there is plenty of reason to believe that the Packers will show up and beat the spread, with a SU win quite likely, as well.

Some of the Chargers' top players are not expected to be in action. Pro Bowl running back LaDainian Tomlinson will rest, while Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates is seeking a new contract and has not reported to training camp. On defense, inside linebacker and leading 2004 tackle Donnie Edwards suffered a sprained right ankle at a Monday practice session, and will likely be held out, while outside linebacker Shawne Merriman will have to wait another week before making his debut as the team’s top draft pick. At quarterback, Pro Bowler Drew Brees should see action in the first quarter, then play Philip Rivers and the San Diego backups. Without DT they will not play as well

the Packers devoted a recent practice to working against the 3-4 system. A big edge that a team can gain vs. an opponent is to gameplan. Most coaches don’t do this for a preseason game, but if a coach is studying films of an opponent’s schemes and/or planning plays to attack those specific schemes, he is playing to win.
My pick The packers +3 for a 1/2 unit
